UBBC and BridgeUkraine jointly promoted the cutting-edge research and training modules that BridgeUkraine have been developing over the last three years twining between UK and UKR Universities via a webinar ( here).
The research learning is applicable to all International Infrastructure companies operating around the world, especially in post conflict economies, and includes approaches to digital cities, allocation of resources, sustainable bridge building and collection of data to inform where and how to rebuild and organise benchmarks for prioritisation of rebuilding.
The seminar was given by both Dr Stergios-Aristoteles Mitoulis, Associate Professor in Engineering and Project Management at UCL, and founder of BridgeUkraine, and Dr Sotirios Argyroudis, co-founder of BridgeUkraine and Associate Professor at Brunel University London.
UBBC members Acrow global and EAME responded with their practical on the ground experience in bridge building (Acrow) and assessments through benchmark evaluation mechanisms for International funders ( EAME). Mr Nick Ianetta, head of engineering at Acrow global outlined the work they are doing in Ukraine, including the application of over 40 modular bridges, tailored to each situation, while Steve Rowan, MD of EAME, provided new insights into what funders are looking for when evaluating significant infrastructure projects. Both panellists agreed to work with BridgeUkraine going forward.
Finally, BU presented their initiative to train over 5000 Ukrainian engineers in EuroCode compliant capabilities and wider engineering modules, which will also be an open platform for engineers anywhere to access.
